چکیده
Despite asphalt self-healing with encapsulated rejuvenators having been intensively researched over the last decade, there is still uncertainty about performance advantages granted by this technology. As a way of adding to existing set research methodologies, study aimed test feasibility visual method investigate working mechanism in bituminous mixture. For purpose, clear mixtures were produced using colorless synthetic binder and pigment was added rejuvenator incorporated calcium alginate capsules. The internal structure containing these capsules inspected both on loaded unloaded specimens. colored also directly cracked specimens its distribution studied, along interaction between binder. results show that could modify limited extent, showed evidence release. It demonstrated aggregate gradation has significant effect capsule damage However, can be filtrated from polymer asphalt. Even though methodology presented some constraints, it proven capable achieving initial goal, while acting as an important first step release

An Alternative Asphalt Binder, Sulfur-Extended Asphalt (SEA)
Background In the early 1970s, due to concern over asphalt cement supply issues and an anticipated over abundance of elemental sulfur, many organizations Société Nationale des Pétroles d’Aquitaine (SNPA), Gulf Oil of Canada, Sulfur Development Institute of Canada (SUDIC), Texas Chemical Company, U.S. Bureau of Mines, and the Texas Transportation Institute) began to evaluate the potential for su...
متن کاملEvaluating the Performance of Hot Mix Asphalt with Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement and Heavy Vacuum Slops as Rejuvenator
Due to the high price of crude oil, and consequently asphalt binder, the application of Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement (RAP) in pavement technology is widely considered. The present paper is the result of a laboratory research which was carried out to investigate the effects of adding a rejuvenating agent to Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) with RAP. To this end, test samples comprised of Aged Asphalt Binder ...
متن کاملLaboratory Evaluation of High Asphalt Binder Replacement with Recycled Asphalt Shingles (ras) for a Low N-design Asphalt Mixture
This study investigated the effect of high asphalt binder replacement for a low N-design asphalt mixture including RAP and RAS on performance indicators such as permanent deformation, fracture, fatigue potentials, and stiffness, was studied. An experimental program included complex modulus, fracture, overlay reflective cracking resistance, wheel track permanent deformations, and push-pull fatig...
متن کاملCharacterization and Micromechanical Investigation of Recycled Asphalt Shingle Binder Blends
The sustainability movement has established a firm foothold in the Civil Engineering profession. The use of recycled asphalt shingles (RAS) is the latest development in the world of asphalt pavement sustainability. The relative abundance of tear-off shingles and their high asphalt content is driving RAS usage in highway and airfield pavements. However, the ultimate objective of any pavement sys...
متن کاملAntioxidant Effect of Bio-Oil Additive ESP on Asphalt Binder
Bio-oil is a dark brown, mobile liquid derived from the thermo-chemical processing of bio-mass. Bio-oils generally contain water and lignin. Lignins are highly-available, well-studied carbohydrate derivative known for their antioxidant properties. For asphalt pavements, oxidation can cause deterioration, a longterm aging process, and eventually result in cracking. Therefore, bio-oil could poten...
